On the occasion of declaring 2022 as the "Year of Shusha" in Azerbaijan, a football tournament called "Shusha - in our hearts" dedicated to Shusha was held on September 10, 2022 in Chisinau between Azerbaijani and local youth living in Moldova.
The tournament was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Moldova and diaspora organization Congress of Azerbaijanis in Moldova.
In addition, a photo-exhibition dedicated to Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, was organized within the framework of the tournament.
Azerbaijani students gave detailed information about this ancient city to the tournament participants and fans who watched the exhibition with great interest. Thus, it was stated that Shusha has played an exceptional role in the cultural and socio-political life of the entire South Caucasus, it is the homeland of a number of outstanding personalities in the literary, cultural, scientific and social fields, it was invaded by the armed forces of Armenia on May 8, 1992, hundreds of historical and cultural monuments in the city destroyed as a result of acts of vandalism during the occupation, and Shusha was liberated from occupation on November 8, 2020, during the 44-day Patriotic War.
It was emphasized at the exhibition that under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, along with the construction of infrastructure, restoration of historical and cultural monuments has been started in the city immediately after the Shusha victory, and now the works are being continued rapidly and efficiently.
The event was widely broadcasted by Moldovan mass media in Romanian and Russian languages.
